LABELEXPO EUROPE 2019

by Matthew Callahan

Registration for the 40th anniversary edition of Labelexpo Europe, the world’s biggest label and package printing technology trade show, is open. Returning to Brussels Expo, from 24 September, the four-day event is set to be bigger than ever, with hundreds of live demonstrations, 2 new features, 3 expert-led master classes and a brand new workshop.

Since its inaugural event in 1980, the biennial Labelexpo Europe has become established as the leading global platform for print professionals, brand owners, label/packaging designers, and related industry suppliers. Themed “Move your business forward”, the focus for this year’s show is on improving business strategy and advancing the industry. Spread across 9 exhibition halls, over 600 exhibitors will be taking part, including: ABG, Avery Dennison, BOBST, Canon, Domino, Durst, Epson, Esko, Fujifilm, Gallus, HP, Kocher & Beck, Konica Minolta, Mark Andy, MPS, Nilpeter, OMET, RotoMetrics, and Xeikon.

Complementing the main exhibition are 2 dynamic show features making their Labelexpo Europe debut. The Flexible Packaging Arena is a demonstration and overview of two press lines – one conventional, one digital – producing indirect food contact flexible packaging to the latest GMP standards. Visitors will gain new insights from the industry-wide UVFoodSafe initiative into best practice for UV curing onto indirect food contact labels and flexible packaging. At the Sustainability Insight Café, visitors will see the latest sustainable innovations designed to support a more environmentally conscious label and package printing industry.

The extremely popular topical educational program – its most extensive to date – will comprise 3 half-day expert-led master classes and a brand new workshop run in association with the Label Academy. The master classes will cover: 1 ) Flexible Packaging – new for 2019; 2 ) Inks, Coatings and Varnishes; and 3) Digital Label and Package Printing; while the workshop will cover Self-Adhesive Materials.

Also taking place on the first evening of the show, 24 September, is the prestigious annual Label Industry Global Awards, which recognize key achievements in the label and package printing sector. The 6 awards include innovation, environment/sustainability and global achievement in the industry. Two of the awards – and new for 2019 – also cover rising stars and European converter of the year. The gala ceremony will also celebrate 40 years of Labelexpo and have a 1980s retro theme. For more details, visit www.labelawards.com.

Labelexpo Europe 2019 is again strongly supported and endorsed by trade bodies FINAT, EUWID, Febelgra, SPPES, UNFEA and VskE.
