ALDUS-TRONICS – THE HOME OF MARK ANDY DIGITAL ONE

by Matthew Callahan

Aldus-Tronics currently has a Mark Andy “Digital One” in the Melbourne showroom and available for customer demonstrations.

We asked Chris Bodger, National Sales Manager – Graphics, about this compact hybrid label press, popular around the world.

What’s different about Digital One compared to others?

“It is an affordable first step into hybrid label production and meets the demands of label convertors who need one-pass workflow. It features a 1200dpi dry toner print engine from Konica Minolta; delivers outstanding print quality on a wide variety of substrates – without any pre-coating; and prints straight from PDF. Plus, no click charge makes the cost of ownership very appealing. Users are reporting more than 50% GP from this platform.”

 And the inline converting?

“Converting utilises the flexographic print station from the legendary Mark Andy 2200 13 inch. It has a slide-out QC inking system and air-cooled LED UV lamp head. The flexo unit can add a variety of decoration and embellishments to digital labels and also has unwind and rewind for cold foil or lamination.

“The die station accepts magnetic die-cutting cylinders from a variety of 13 inch presses, including the 2200 and the Mark Andy Performance Series. It can also accept cylinders from other brands, so people looking to add digital to their workflow, may already have suitable tooling available. It comes with inline slitting and rewinding; dual rewind and even an RD Scorer for back slitting.

Who is buying the Digital One?

“Those who need to take short-run work off bigger flexo presses to help free-up capacity. This in turn, helps their flexo presses become more efficient, as they can dedicate them to longer runs. But we’re seeing general printers, packaging companies and brand-owners embracing this technology to diversify and enter the label market or bring production in-house. Mark Andy has sold more than 100 units around the globe in the past two years, it’s a big hit.”

“We generally hold onto our demonstration equipment for a while, so people have the opportunity to view one working before deciding to purchase. However, we will be selling our demo machine prior to redeveloping our showroom space, and bringing in new equipment. So, we have some very interesting pricing on this demo machine, which makes it more affordable than ever to own a Digital Hybrid.”
