Farewell to ink specialist Sam Schimizzi

by Matthew Callahan

Sam Schimizzi had a long career in the printing industry prior to his death earlier this year. He was involved specifically in the ink industry for 48 continuous years.

Sam was originally employed by cosmetics factory J & W Ross but was encouraged to join the printing ink preparation department of Chas Steele & Co Pty Ltd in 1966. Up until 1968, his job encompassed the mixing and colour matching of all printing inks for the flexographic and gravure printing department.

He was offered and took up the opportunity to join F.T. Wimble in 1968 as a Laboratory Ink Technician until 1970, when he joined Sidney Cooke Pty Ltd in Process Development until 1973.

Another opportunity arose and Sam moved to Coates Bros. Australia (now DIC) in the Technical Service section. In 1975, he re-joined F.T. Wimble as a Technical Sales Representative, where he remained for 16 years.

By this time Sam had obtained a broad knowledge of the local ink industry and he decided to establish his own business, Inkcolor Australia, as Founder and Managing Director of the company manufacturing printing ink.

Sam subsequently developed Inkcolor operations in China and established a joint venture in Indonesia.
