RD AutoScore: the next generation of automation for tag and label converting

by Matthew Callahan

The Tidland RD AutoScore developed by Maxcess represents a significant advancement in automation for tag, label and specialty material converting. Its advanced features, including auto depth setting and trim width control, allow for precise and repeatable adjustments for score blades to further optimise job setup, improve safety, reduce pressroom downtime, and increase running speeds across more types of material.

With fast changeovers and the ability to handle a wide range of materials, including PET liners, the RD AutoScore expands the possibilities for converters, providing them with a competitive edge in the industry and enabling them to meet diverse customer demands.

The RD AutoScore also provides enhanced safety features and improved ergonomics. With ISO 13854 finger-safe certification, operators can work with confidence, knowing that their well-being is prioritised. The system offers automatic and repeatable positioning and cut-depth tuning of score blades, eliminating blade damage during setup and providing a safe, easy-to-use scoring system that delivers a return on investment in less than one year compared to manual score systems.

By implementing the RD AutoScore, converters can achieve significant material waste reduction. Typical converters can save between 4572 to 15,240 metres of material annually, contributing to cost savings and environmental sustainability.

Aaron Powers, Global Product Manager at Maxcess, commented: “We’re excited to launch the RD AutoScore, which offers a new level of automation and efficiency for our customers. With decades of knowledge working with pressure sensitive materials through our RotoMetrics brand, we understand that reducing setup times while maximising line speeds is paramount to a successful label or specialty converting application. Along with the product’s ability to underscore filmic liners, we believe the Tidland RD AutoScore provides significant value to our customers and will enhance their press productivity and operator safety.”

Mark Andy has announced an agreement with Maxcess International to market the Tidland RD AutoScore globally to the narrow web label and packaging industry on new flexographic presses.

“The productivity improvements for setup and quick blade changes, combined with added safety and faster running speeds, aligns with our mission to help converters drive productivity and profitability on their presses and in their overall operations,” remarked Greg Palm, Senior Vice President for Mark Andy Inc. “It is a truly a pleasure to work with a global leader like Maxcess and find synergies where it makes good sense for label and converting businesses.”
