Leigh Hooper, General Manager, Labels and Packaging, Ball & Doggett, identified sustainability as the most important trend observed at this drupa. “I think most of the topics of conversation with our suppliers are all driven around sustainability.
“From a labels and packaging point of view, the packaging target guidelines are fast approaching, so a lot of the conversations with our suppliers are tailored around what developing trends they are experiencing and what materials and innovations are coming forward that are going to align with those packaging guidelines.
“It is interesting talking to a lot of our overseas manufacturers, to hear the packaging guidelines for regions such as Europe, UK, and the US, are different to the those being proposed in Australia which adds a layer of complexity. It’s important that we understand these global trends, and then try to take that back and work with organisations like APCO to see if we can get some progress in this area.”
“The highlight for Ball & Doggett has been networking with suppliers to really understand what the developing trends are within our industry. The demand and requirement for sustainable packaging solutions is moving so fast, and it’s important that we understand our suppliers’ capabilities. drupa also provides distributors like us, a great opportunity to network with suppliers, and see them all under one roof as opposed to travelling all over the globe. They are all here, so to be able to meet with them and a lot of our customers in person has been a real win. Collaboration is really important for us. Working with customers and bringing them to our suppliers to take them on that journey on what our products can do has been really powerful.”
