Bar Graphics Machinery – Compact and Compact Pro

by Matthew Callahan

It’s increasingly rare to find a print company that hasn’t adopted some form of digital capability. As digital UV inkjet continues to evolve into a highly competitive alternative to conventional flexographic and offset printing, greater pressure is being placed on finishing departments – particularly complex digital finishing lines traditionally used for value-added processes such as hot foiling, embossing and screen embellishments. The result is often a production bottleneck, where high-value equipment is tied up processing simpler jobs.

Recognising this challenge, the team at Bar Graphic Machinery has developed a streamlined solution. The BGM Compact and Compact Pro have been designed specifically to handle everyday work that doesn’t require complex embellishment, freeing up high-end finishing lines for more demanding applications.

With a compact footprint of just 2.5 metres for the Compact and 3.5 metres for the Compact Pro, these machines are built to maximise efficiency without sacrificing capability. Both models offer speeds of up to 100 metres per minute and support a 370 mm web width, making them well suited to a wide range of label applications.

Core features across the Compact range include lamination options (self-wound or wet lamination via a flexo unit), a flexo station for flood coat varnish, crush and razor slitting, semi-rotary die cutting, matrix removal, dual rewind and an integrated corona treater. These capabilities allow operators to complete essential finishing processes in a single, efficient pass.

The Compact Pro builds on this foundation with the addition of a second flexo unit, enabling spot varnishes and light embellishments such as cold foiling or mid-build varnish effects. This added flexibility provides a bridge between basic finishing and more advanced decorative applications, without the complexity of larger, more sophisticated systems.

Ease of use is a key consideration in the Compact range. With an intuitive interface and the robust build quality expected from BGM, these machines allow operators to quickly become proficient. This is particularly valuable in an industry where skilled labour can be difficult to source and retain. By reducing the learning curve, businesses can maintain productivity and efficiency – even when onboarding new staff.

Ultimately, the BGM Compact and Compact Pro offer a practical, cost-effective way to optimise finishing workflows, reduce bottlenecks, and ensure that high-end equipment is reserved for the applications that truly require it.
