“CARTES has decided to expand its presence in the Oceania region, by appointing Rodden Graphics as the exclusive agent in the ANZ market,” comments Enrica Lodi, CMO of Cartes.
“Rodden Graphics’ vision for innovation for the label and packaging industry is aligned with the vision of CARTES” she elaborates. “Our aligned goals will be to introduce the CARTES portfolio into the Oceania region and to provide the necessary support to ensure customers’ success and satisfaction with CARTES products. Through the alignment of CARTES and Rodden Graphics, we aim to exceed customers’ expectations and to deliver the appropriate solution to satisfy the needs of the customer.”
James Rodden comments: “At DRUPA 2024, Sarah and I were looking for a company with manufacturing experience in both conventional and digital embellishment and as fate would have it, we found ourselves on the CARTES stand having a great conversation with the Sales Director. Fast forward to September, and we have agreed to represent CARTES in the Oceania region.”
CARTES has a strong international reputation. Since its inception in 1970, CARTES has affirmed its success in 98 countries where more than 4300 machines have been installed. The Italian-based company is also recognised for its innovation, high quality, Jet D-Screen digital embellishment and laser die cutting. CARTES specialises in the high value-added products market and is a pioneer in the development of innovative solutions for self-adhesive as well as liner-less reel-to-reel web printing finishing and converting processes.
An award-winning reputation
Last year CARTES was named the winner for Innovation in the under 300-employee category at the Global Industry Label Awards presented at Labelexpo in Brussels. This award honours the company that has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to innovation and progress within the label industry over many years.
CARTES impressed the judges with its fully automated end-to-end digital embellishment line which integrates Jet D-Screen digital finishing with digital metal doming and a laser die-cutting and converting system.
The Jet D-Screen digital unit can create multi-layer effects such as spot coating, complex tactile raised effects and braille printing as well as very detailed foil and metallic doming transferring. In one step labels can be personalised and beautified, with no tooling costs, instantaneous start-up and no material waste.
The CARTES research and development department, taking advantage of its many years of experience in traditional screen printing, developed an innovative finishing technology that uses its own system to deposit a thicker layer previously impossible to achieve with inkjet technologies.
The operator’s work has been simplified extensively, allowing the selection of options from predefined settings and the choice of the material to be used, thus achieving immediate production in the JDS unit without waste. Materials printed with the JDS system do not need to be varnished or pre-treated; these processes may distort the ‘texture’ of the material.
The printing polymerisation device consists of a hybrid LED/UV drying system that processes any material, even temperature-sensitive substrates.
Continuing its winning streak for the second year in a row, CARTES was recognised in the 30th Annual FSEA Gold Leaf Awards Competition, which celebrates the quality, added value, shelf presence, security and brand recognition that the finishing and embellishment processes lend to printed products. CARTES took out three Best of Category Gold Awards and one Silver Award.
A bright future for labels and packaging
Two factors that influenced Rodden Graphics’ decision to take on the CARTES agency in Australia and NZ were the positive outlook from 2025-2029 in the Oceania region and CARTES being one of the innovation leaders in the label industry.
The third is the exceptional level of quality produced on CARTES machinery. “It’s the highest print and embellishment quality I’ve seen in the label market. That’s also the feedback from the customers that we’ve shown the samples. They’ve all been blown away,” enthuses James.
“It’s like jewels,” observes Sarah Rodden, proffering a Pjaföc Lambrusco Imperiale wine label. “Do you see the level of detail there? Those jewels just pop out at you. That’s what CARTES can offer our customers in the ANZ region. Not only does it give them fantastic results, but it allows them to do something new in the marketplace. I think our customers, especially in the high-end wine and beverage, cosmetics, health and beauty sectors will be very happy to be able to process such options in the future,” she adds.
The other quality that impressed James and Sarah Rodden was the welcome to the Cartes family extended by Sales Director Virgilio Micale. “CARTES places great emphasis on the traditional Italian family spirit within their company and we can identify with that as a small family company too,” concludes James Rodden.
Virgilio Micale comments: “Rodden Graphics is a company led by James Rodden, who has more than 25 years of experience in the label and packaging industry. Through his excellent reputation in the ANZ territory and his professional approach, he can help us find appropriate solutions to meet the needs of local label and packaging printers and ensure that customer service exceeds expectations.
“This market is extremely interesting for us since its needs match perfectly with what our equipment can grant, so we hope to consolidate our presence with an extended client portfolio to expand our business volume by offering unique solutions.”
