Re’s web guiding systems impact productivity and quality

by Matthew Callahan

The alignment of the material from the unwinder to the rewinder is a must for those who want to increase the productivity and quality. Re web guiding systems, thanks to the stepping motors, guarantee a fast and accurate correction of the material position and an important reduction of maintenance costs. Depending on the application, the goal to reach and the material to process, the Italian company can offer a wide range of web guiding with the best and new technologies to guarantee the customer’s success.

When talking about material alignment, the focus is usually on the selection of sensors, actuators or control units. In reality, the question to ask is a different one: Which web guiding system is best suited to my machine? The answer depends on many factors. The material, line speed, required precision, available space and machine geometry all have a direct influence on the final result.

The web guide is an integral part of the process. Paper, plastic film, labels, non-woven or aluminium all behave differently during the processing. To achieve the best level of precision possible, the web guiding system has to be selected and integrated according to the specific application, not simply based on the catalogue.

For over 50 years, Re has been cooperating with OEMs and converters from all over the world to develop reliable and stable solutions that can be easily integrated into production processes.

A wide range of web guides for every application

To meet the requirements of various converting processes, Re has developed a wide range of pivoting frame web guides named WG. From the compact WG.100 to the WG.2000 for wide-width materials, the range caters for different requirements in terms of speed, precision and correction force.

Depending on the application, various sizes, correction strokes and speeds are available to ensure the material is always correctly positioned throughout the entire production process. The aim is simple: to keep the laminate in the correct position in a continuous, stable and repeatable manner

The MWG22 web guide control integrates the control logic and stepper motor driver into a single device, designed to ensure rapid response and precise control of the material positioning.

It is available in two versions: with or without the colour graphic display and the intuitive user’s interface for a simple and immediate configuration and operation. Moreover, it can be provided with ProfiNET or EtherCAT protocols for seamless integration with PLCs, motorised sensors and existing automation systems.

A reliable and precise web guide depends on choosing the right sensor. This is why the Re range includes ultrasonic, infrared and optical sensors to select according to the material and the control objective.

From detecting the edges of paper and plastic films to inspecting printed lines, graphic references and special materials, each technology is designed to deliver precision, reliability and operational continuity under real production conditions.

More than just a supplier, a technical partner

Choosing a web guiding system is not just about the technology. It means identifying the solution best suited to the application and integrating it correctly into the machine.

The team at Re works alongside OEMs and converters throughout the design, development and commissioning phases, providing application expertise, technical collaboration and practical support.
