Python wide band infrared sensor turns downtime into productivity

by Matthew Callahan

Anyone working with many kinds of materials knows how frustrating it is to manually move web guiding sensors each time the width changes. Every adjustment takes time. Every manual intervention introduces new risk.

However, Re SpA, the Italian manufacturer of industrial control systems, has solved this problem with its new compact Python sensor, which turns downtime into productivity.

The next-generation wide band infrared sensor is designed to deliver maximum precision in material position detection for web guiding systems. By integrating the illuminator and receiver on a single housing, the sensor reads the material across its entire width, making it the perfect solution for major format changes without manual repositioning.

The sensor is engineered to detect both edges of materials such as paper, cardboard, and opaque plastic film, ensuring stable and reliable control. It can also identify the centre position and measure the material width in a single scan, making it adaptable to a wide variety of industrial applications. Its compact design makes installation easy in any machine layout and, in many cases, eliminates the need for a rear reference, further simplifying integration.

Equipped with advanced electronics, the Python offers a reading range from 216 mm to 3500 mm and extremely fast response times, guaranteeing continuous and precise control even at high production speeds. The integrated keypad with four buttons, a 23-LED bar and a four-digit display allows for quick and simple calibration.

With five selectable outputs (0–5 V, 0–10 V, 4–20 mA, 0–20 mA, 0–24 mA), it can be easily integrated into any web guiding system or application. An optional CAN communication interface is also available, enabling remote calibration and adjustment for even greater operational flexibility.

Install it, calibrate it in seconds, and experience smoother, more accurate and more efficient production.
